The following calls only pertain to the South and West Shore, including Meyers, South Lake Tahoe, Meeks Bay, Tahoma, and the Echo Summit area. The Tahoe Chamber named the winners for this year's Blue Ribbon Awards during a special awards ceremony Thursday, May 16, at the Tahoe Blue Event Center.

The goal of the Blue Ribbon Awards is to recognize businesses and individuals who have made significant contributions to the South Tahoe community.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Many South Lake Tahoe and Meyers neighborhoods have become Firewise certified, helping to make a safe and more resilient community against the threat of wildfire.

The first area neighborhood to become Firewise certified was Al Tahoe, leading the way for others to learn how to work together to reduce the threat of wildfire and show insurance companies their results in hopes of not being canceled.

STATELINE, Nev. - If you've been wondering where all the acts are for the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys this summer, you're not alone. Normally the popular venue is booked from mid-June through September, but that isn't the case for 2024.

On Friday, May 10, the El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE) and school district representatives gathered to celebrate the achievements of their most exceptional administrators at the annual Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) El Dorado County Chapter Awards Dinner. Held at Jack Russell Farm Brewery in Camino, the ceremony was a testament to educational excellence and a heartwarming evening filled with laughter and poignant moments.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District's Associate Superintendent,  
Educational Services Dr. Alan Reeder was among those awarded.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the annexation of the Meeks Bay Fire Protection District into the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, getting all parties closer to the final step in a lengthy process.

The County's Ad Hoc Annexation Committee along with the Chief Administrative Officer's office both made the recommendation to dissolve Meeks Bay Fire and annex the district to North Tahoe Fire.

The move makes fiscal and practical sense due to the proximity of Meeks Bay to North Lake Tahoe and

Marie Finkes is the director of FitzHenry’s Funeral Home in Carson City, and said that over the past year, there have been 12 bodies under her care that have been subject to extended stays. This is due to the fact that Carson City Public Administrator Scott Hoen has ignored their repeated requests for an electronic signature releasing the body for cremation.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office (DA) and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) tried for six years to have Ricardo Serrano Perez extradited to Nevada after the sexual assault of a minor. They were successful on October 9, 2023, and today Serrano Perez was sentenced to 20 years in the Nevada Department of Corrections.

The Tahoe Area Sierra Club is inviting the public to learn more about the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California during a well-illustrated and captivating presentation by Herman Fillmore on May 23 at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center on May 23 at 3:30 p.m. Herman Fillmore is the Culture/Language Resources Director for the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA, May 15, 2024 – The City is seeking input from the community on updating the Lake Tahoe Airport (TVL) 20-Year Master Plan. There are three ways to provide feedback about future improvements of airport facilities and infrastructure, via a survey, through the comment portal at www.cityofslt.us/AirportMasterPlan, and at the in-person open house. The Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan Survey is open through Friday, June 21.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is offering the free driver safety class, Start Smart, on Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m. The course is aimed at helping newly licensed and future licensed teenage drivers become aware of the responsibilities that accompany the privilege of being a licensed California driver. The program was created in an effort to preemptively reduce the incidence of teen injuries and deaths resulting from motor vehicle collisions.

Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) is holding their popular Cram-a-Cruiser food drive at South Lake Tahoe’s Grocery Outlet on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A local coalition of residents, small businesses, and taxpayers has been formed to launch a campaign to defeat the proposed vacancy tax in South Lake Tahoe. On Wednesday, the El Dorado County Registrar of Voters certified the tax measure after it received enough signatures to qualify for the ballot in November.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) is scheduled to begin mechanical forest thinning this week on approximately 75 acres located in two locations, one near High Meadows Trail and one near Cascade Properties in South Lake Tahoe. The Lake Valley Mechanical Contract is part of the South Shore Hazardous Fuels Reduction and Healthy Forest Restoration Project intended to reduce the risk of severe wildfires near neighborhoods and create healthier forests in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The proposed vacancy tax measure in South Lake Tahoe has made it to the November 2024 ballot after the El Dorado County Registrar of Voters verified the 2,471 signatures submitted by Locals for Affordable Housing were sufficient. Only 1,159 valid signatures were needed.

The measure is titled "An Initiative measure to establish a tax on owners of vacant residential units in the City of South Lake Tahoe."
