South Tahoe High School will celebrate the unveiling of its renovated Viking Bowl facility tonight by hosting Churchill County in a Northern 3A football contest.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff on a field that has been converted from natural to synthetic turf and now has permanent lighting.
South Tahoe kicked off its season last Friday with a 35-12 victory at Portola, Calif.
Tonight will be the league opener for both the Vikings and Churchill County Greenwave (Fallon).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A crew of military veterans who are preparing for future employment while they're helping to protect Lake Tahoe communities from wildfire were visited today by U.S. Forest Service and California Conservation Corps officials.

From Southern Nevada to Lake Tahoe and all parts above and in between, state, federal, local and volunteer firefighting resources have responded to numerous lightning- and human-caused wildfires across Nevada so far this year. The state has lost about 94,000 acres to wildfire this summer, which is significantly less than the five-year average of 428,084 acres a year.

The South Shore Lake Tahoe Labor Day Weekend Fireworks Extravaganza explodes over Lake Tahoe this Sunday, at around 8:30 p.m. and will once again famously feature spectacular patterns and a variety of lights, designs, and shapes.

The second of California’s two free Fishing Days will be over the Labor Day holiday weekend on Saturday, Sept. 3. The other Free Fishing Day was back on July 2. You can fish, all day, without a fishing license.
You'll be able to fish wherever you like in California. However, you will need to abide by the rules and regulations that govern whatever water(s) you will be fishing.
So, be sure to obey those rules and regulations. Don’t do something illegal. If you do, and if you get caught, it could be very expensive.

LAKE TAHOE — A federal judge has dismissed a suit against the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Sierra Colina project that was brought on by the League to Save Lake Tahoe.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit fuels crew oversees Thursday's prescribed fire operation on the West Shore near Rubicon Bay, part of an aggressive program to reduce wildfire risk. Weather conditions have allowed the Forest Service to treat a total of 1800 acres over the past year, including 400 acres over the summer.

To streamline the review and deliberation of items crucial to the Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Update, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board on Wednesday chartered a new committee to focus on update of the Plan.
The formation of this committee comes on the heels of the annual Lake Tahoe Summit where federal and state representatives urged swift completion of the plan update.
