SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Imagine your child enjoying art classes this summer in the forest in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Art League is holding a month full of classes on Thursdays for kids in July behind their gallery at 3062 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

RSVPs are required due to limited space.

JULY 6 - NATALI MAHER Watercolor on Paper. This class teaches painting pet portraits so bring a pet photo.

JULY 13 - CHARLOTTE CASTILLO Acrylic on Paper and Collage. This class teaches tint, tone, and shade.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Public Utility Disrict (STPUD) is hosting four free gardening workshops this summer. The first one is on Tuesday, June 27 at 6 p.m. - Rethinking Your Lawn. Learn about turf alternatives and lawn removal methods.

Mountain biking is an exciting sport with a variety of physical and psychological demands. On Tahoe’s world-class trails, riders maneuver their bikes at fast speeds, corner within inches of obstacles like trees and boulders, drop off elevated pitches, and rumble through rock gardens. It’s a sport that requires technical skills, quick decision-making, cardio fitness, power, total body strength, and confidence.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The U.S. Forest Service responded to a small wildfire on the east shore of Lake Tahoe on Friday afternoon. The fire was in an area south of US50 called Montreal Canyon and was named the Genoa Fire.

The Genoa Fire was reported at 3:26 p.m. and was approximately 1/2 acre at 4 p.m. A helicopter provided by Bridgeport Helitack made bucket drops as fire engines headed to the area.

As of 7 p.m., a fuel break is around the fire and it is contained. Crews will remain on the scene overnight to watch the area.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Enjoy live music and good food for a great cause benefitting American River Conservancy's (ARC) Resilience Reserve all summer.​​​​​​​ In partnership with Marco's Cafe, ​​​​​​​ARC is hosting a series of outdoor concerts featuring local bands at the historical and quaint farmhouse of Wakamatsu Farm in Placerville. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Following the successful 2022 opening of its first luxury micro-resort in South Lake Tahoe, Desolation Hotel has announced its expansion to a second Sierra Nevada location: Desolation Hotel Hope Valley. LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Lake Tahoe Dance Collective (LTDC) presents the eleventh annual Lake Tahoe Dance Festival, which will take place this summer from July 26-29, 2023 at venues in Tahoe City and Truckee, Calif. Tickets start at $25 and are available online at laketahoedancecollective.org.

This summer, the Lake Tahoe Dance Festival includes works by Lar Lubovitch, Natasha Adorlee, Liz Gerritt, Claudia Schreier, Holly Curran, and Marco Pelle.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A 37-year-old man from Cameron Park, Kevin Van Streefkerk, has been arrested by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) after an investigation by detectives into the death of the man's 5 1/2-week-old infant.

According to EDSO reports, detectives were called to investigate a report of physical abuse against an infant. As a result of the abuse, the infant sustained numerous injuries and was taken to a hospital in critical condition on Saturday. Sadly, the infant succumbed to the trauma and passed away while in the hospital on June 18, 2023.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During their meeting Tuesday, the South Lake Tahoe City Council voted on the applicants for the next round of cannabis revenues grants. In 2022, $399,650 was given to 14 local nonprofits and agencies, and for 2023, 15 have been chosen to receive $408,625.

The grants provide funding opportunities to the local public agencies and nonprofit organizations with programs or projects designed to mitigate potential negative impacts of the cannabis industry in South Lake Tahoe and promote the priorities of the City Strategic Plan.
