SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe Public Utility District (District) has been awarded the coveted Excellence in Information Technology award from the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC). The District is one of only 18 recipients throughout the state of California.

“This award illustrates the high level of expertise of the District’s IT Department,” said Paul Hughes, General Manager. “We are very fortunate to have highly dedicated and professional staff that continue to advance technology and protect the District from cyber-attacks.”

Agencies at Lake Tahoe and across the United States are working to overcome fundamental barriers to creating affordable and workforce housing. It is critical that communities stand together and embrace the changes that are needed if we are to confront a housing crisis of immense proportions.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. – Bayview Farms Pony Club Riding Center has announced the certification of Bailey Brown from D-1 to D-2 in Horse Management, and sisters Gabby and Giada Lancellotti from D-1 to D-2 in Horse Management and Hunter Seat Equitation at a testing event held on November 12, 2023, in Minden, Nev.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Community Conversation will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the District Office.

The discussion in January will be centered on Artificial Intelligence and Education.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Imagine picking up a book in 2023 stating that "someday man will walk on the moon." One would correctly guess that the book is too old to be in a library. There are old books like this in South Lake Tahoe school libraries, and Lift Literature is on a mission to refresh those libraries with current books. Libraries are a hub for inspiration, as well as powerful and critical information. More often than not, the school library is the only place Tahoe kids have access to books.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Wednesday night is the sixth night of the Cuppa Tahoe/South Lake Tahoe Library's 24-day Tahoe Reading Advent Calendar. Tonight's bedtime reader is CoWork Tahoe and Untethered Space Co-Owner David Orr and his and Jamie's daughters, Annika and Ninah.

"Jamie and I read to our daughters every night to help them wind down," said David, who is also a board member of TAMBA. "I find it a good way to spend some quality time with my girls and wear mud masks or do our nails."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area to be in effect from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 4 p.m. Thursday for areas above 6,000 feet.

Snow is expected above 6000 feet. Snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches, except 1-2 feet above 8000 feet. Ridge winds gusting as high as 100 mph.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Monday morning, employees were caught by surprise when they were told the Denny's in South Lake Tahoe would be closing that day. After 40+ years in business, the franchisee closed the doors.

Franchise owner Paul Schmidt said it was multiple reasons leading to the closure, starting with COVID. He said sales had declined since the pandemic, and then the Caldor Fire didn't help. He said while the volume at the restaurant was never high, they did okay until people started staying away from South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) wants the public to know some very important rules when cutting down trees for their Christmas holiday. Even though tree permit holders are given instructions when they purchase the permit, it has become evident to forest officials that they aren't always being followed.
