SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe and the Lake Tahoe Historical Society have teamed together once again for the 3rd annual Festival of Winter Lights on Friday, December 8 and Saturday, December 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. nightly. The museum and its bookstore will be holding its Holiday in History during the festival and will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

This outdoor holiday market-style event will be held in the parking lot of the Lake Tahoe Historical Museum at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe has announced the launch of a $350,000 community playground campaign, “Let the Kids Play,” to upgrade the Al Tahoe playground.

The current Al Tahoe playground is over 25 years old, having been built in the late 1990s for Al Tahoe Elementary School and the community surrounding it. Since the elementary school closed in 2004, there have been no upgrades or improvements to the neglected playground, resulting in many areas now being boarded up, decrepit, and unsuitable for play.

TAHOE CITY, Calf. - Building on the success of the popular engraved bears along the Tahoe East Shore Trail, the Tahoe Fund has announced a partnership with Placer County to install personalized bears along the railings in Tahoe City’s Heritage Plaza to raise funds for trails in the Placer County region of North Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tahoe Magic will soon celebrate 30 years of bringing “magic” to thousands of individuals and their families at a time when they desperately needed it. Founded as a non-profit in 1994, each year Tahoe Magic has assisted hundreds of families with children experiencing a financial crisis, with financial assistance. Tahoe Magic achieved this because we truly have a community that cares about each other.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – After taking a break from burning during the week of Thanksgiving, Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) members are scheduled to resume prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - If you think it's been colder than usual this past week, you're right. Temperatures have been below normal, and these will continue through the week. While the start of the week will be dry, things are looking more interesting from midweek onward as several weak systems move through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

While none of these will be major storms, anticipate periods of snow and travel difficulties. Exactly how much snow though, is the question until the systems get closer.

During their November 21 meeting, an extra-long consent agenda discussion pushed the final agenda item, a vote on proposed cannabis ordinance changes up to 10 p.m. without a vote.

Former South Lake Tahoe resident and businessman, Mark Cohen, passed away on August 20, 2023 in Bothell, Washington at the age of 77. Mark was born on July 9th, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to Harry and Mildren Cohen and he was an only child. He graduated from Westchester High School in 1964 and went on to study at Santa Monica City College earning his associate’s degree and later transferring to UCLA. He met Virginia Martin, and the couple was married in February 1968.

On Friday, December 1, the Meyers Community Foundation will hold the annual Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. in the Divided Sky parking lot.

There will be hot cocoa, popcorn, a photo opportunity with Santa, and music. Santa will be dropped off by CalStar (weather permitting), and the beautiful Meyers tree will be lit up with more lights than ever before!

Bring your family and friends for a fun-filled evening complete with great Meyers Vibes. Lake Valley Fire will be in attendance with their lit-up truck!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The official lighting of the Christmas tree at Heavenly Village on Friday brought out the crowds to watch Santa Claus arrive as the tree was lit amidst fireworks, entertainment, and speeches from some elected officials.

Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in grand style aboard the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue ladder truck. Their arrival captivated the audience, setting the tone for an evening full of holiday cheer and community spirit. The Clauses made their way to the stage, greeted by the excited cheers of the whole crowd, young and old.

The 2023 Tahoe Film Fest opens this Thursday, November 30 with films being shown on the North Shore through December 10. All ticket purchases for the Tahoe Film Fest support science education with the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center.
