Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 08/06/2015 - 9:57am
Dr. Joshua Welch of South Lake Tahoe will be joining a dozen other chiropractors in giving inmates adjustments at the 11th Annual San Quentin TRUST Health Fair on Saturday, August 21. TRUST stands for Teaching Responsibility Utilizing Sociological Training.
The event is sponsored by Centerforce, Bay Area Black Nurses Association, and the Alameda County Public Health Department. The health fair includes dentists, mental health, cholesterol, blood pressure screens, and chiropractic adjustments. This is the largest prison health fair in the country and is currently being studied to use in more prisons around California.
This health fair is attended by inmates who adhere to the strict policies of the prison and have a history of good behavior. While chiropractic is not an essential part of the health and wellness protocol in the prison system, it allows the prisoners much needed adjustments to help neck and back pain. The time spent with the inmates is minimal, due to the time constraint and sheer numbers in line. The total time spent with the population is about 2 hours and the 12 chiropractors usually provide 400-600 adjustments.
