Book signing of 'Heartwood' in South Lake Tahoe Sunday

Local author JoAnn Conner will hold a book signing of her first novel, Heartwood, at Rainbow Sprinkles Donut and Frozen Yogurt Shop on Sunday, August 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Heartwood is a novel of historical fiction set in Bridgeport, CA, in 1867. Bridgeport was a small, but busy town, that saw a lot of freight traffic from Bodie to Virginia City. The story is of a young man who comes west after the Civil War to find a small ranch for him and his brother. It leads through some of the life in a western town, and integrates the story of a young woman who is pursued by a trio of outlaws who killed her husband and want to eliminate the witness. Historical tidbits, like Sheriff Zachary Tinkum (the sheriff in Bridgeport in 1867) are laced through the novel, which ends with a twist.
