Weak winter system Friday in Lake Tahoe Basin with Lake Wind Advisory and light snow showers

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Another weak weather system is expected to bring very light snow showers to the Sierra and northeastern California along with increasing winds through Friday afternoon. Minor snow accumulations around a trace up to an inch will be possible by early Friday morning mainly north of Lake Tahoe and in upper elevations according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

With this system comes with a Winter Weather Advisory Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph expected in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Waves 2 to 3 feet with the highest along the northeastern shores.

Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve.

After this system the temperatures will rise in South Lake Tahoe with highs near 50 for much of next week.

Tonight - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. South wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday - A 20 percent chance of snow before 10am. Snow level rising to 6900 feet in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 48. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 19. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming east after midnight.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 46. Calm wind.

Saturday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Calm wind.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 47.

Sunday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 22.
