It has taken 14 crew members working 12-hour shifts for the last eight days to keep the 259 miles of roads in the City of South Lake Tahoe cleared after 5.13 inches of rain and about four feet of snow hit the south shore.
A single plow of each street has been completed in the City limits, and crews will start working on widening the streets and plowing bike paths Saturday morning.
Snow removal crews will continue to work 12-hour shifts in order to get all streets clear before the next storm arrives. This week's Tier 4 storm put plows on primary arterial and collector roadways, and side streets were done when possible.
Each shift has eight people running graders, two on sander plows, three mechanics and one supervisors.
The equipment has been overworked and there are currently two graders, one plow and one sander plow our of service though the Public Works Department has been able to use backup equipment so snow removal efforts have not been affected.
