Douglas County Commissioners and Manager Jim Nichols parting ways

After just 17 months on the job, Douglas County Manager Jim Nichols is leaving his position. The Douglas County Board of Commissioners have announced that Nichols' employment relationship with the county is coming to an end.

Officially, a mutual separation agreement will be presented at the next Board of County Commissioner’s meeting on January 21, 2016. This meeting will be held at Stateline.

“We appreciate Jim’s service and commitment to Douglas County for the past year,” said Doug Johnson, Chairman to the board. “We are working with Mr. Nichols to develop an agreement that is fair to both parties.”

If the Board approves the proposed separation agreement, Mr. Nichols’ last date of employment will be January 29, 2016. A transition plan for an Interim County Manager will also be discussed at the January 21, 2016 meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.

“I appreciate the opportunity afforded to me by the Board of County Commissioners," said Nichols. "I have enjoyed my time in Douglas County and the great people who make up this community. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the incredible work of the County staff who have helped make the past year such a memorable one."

Nichols became the county manager in September of 2014. Prior to that he was the Assistant City manager in Midland, Texas for three years and the Las Vegas Deputy City Manager for two years.
