Two musicians with the legendary Bay Area R&B band Tower of Power remain hospitalized after being hit by an Amtrak train in Oakland on January 12. The other band members will still be performing on the South Shore at Harrah's Tahoe February 3 and 4.
The band's longtime drummer, 70-year-old Dave Garibaldi, is listed in "fair condition" but will remain hospitalized for a few more days as he recovers from head and facial injuries.
Garibaldi and Marc Van Wageningen were heading to a performance at Yoshi’s nightclub in Jack London Square when they were hit by an Amtrak train at 7:36 p.m. They were coming from a nearby hotel and they were slated to take the stage at 8 p.m.
Van Wageningen was sitting in for the band's regular bassist Frank "Rocco" Prestia. He is in critical condition after suffering broken ribs, a concussion, and internal injuries and underwent surgery after the incident.
Prestia will join the other members of Tower of Power when they play in Tahoe. They have a temporary replacement for Garibaldi according to John Packer of Harrah's and Harvey's Public Affairs and Media Relations department.
