Lake Valley Fire kept busy this week with South Shore and Strawberry fires

Two South Shore fires and one near the Strawberry Lodge kept crews from Lake Valley Fire Department (LVFD) busy this week.
On Tuesday about 11:30 a.m., a home on Alice Lake Road in the Montgomery Estates neighborhood suffered smoke damage after a fire started in the garage. The fire started in the garage near the furnace and hot water heater and flames were contained to the garage.
LVFD was assisted by South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue.
The family and their dogs were displaced, but nobody was at home at the time of the fire and the dogs were outside. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
On Wednesday night, a home on Nahane Drive off of South Upper Truckee suffered water and smoke damage after the attic caught on fire. The home was occupied at the time but nobody was injured. LVFD said the high roof line made fighting the fire difficult. The cause has not been determined.
Thursday at 4:30 p.m., a cabin by the American River near Strawberry Lodge burned to the ground. El Dorado County Fire and Lake Valley Fire both responded, but by the time they got there the home was fully engulfed and already a total loss due to its remote location. According to LVFD, it appeared the cabin hadn't been inhabited in awhile as there were no fresh tracks in the snow surrounding it.
Nothing was left to determine the cause of this fire.
