Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/29/2020 - 1:46pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A production company will be filming in the South Lake Tahoe region for approximately six weeks starting sometime in February through March 2021 and they are looking for a large local crew to work on the project.
The project is a secret at this time but their list of local needs is bigger than most that film in the Lake Tahoe area: cast wranglers, production assistants, location helpers, drivers, camera operators, sound/audio crew, and grips.
Longtime local Larry Lukins ~ 1944 - 2020
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/24/2020 - 10:44amLarry Lukins passed away on November 25, 2020. He was born February 22, 1944 to Melvin and Hazel Lukins of South Lake Tahoe. Larry was the third generation of Lukins’ raised in South Lake Tahoe.
Larry was always proud of growing up in “old Tahoe” and loved to share stories of the good ole days. As a child growing up in South Lake Tahoe, Larry and his brother Danny spent much of their time working on and building airplanes, cars and boats.
California Tahoe Conservancy awards over $340,000 to Washoe Tribe to restore Meeks Meadow

As long as allowed, Kirkwood's winter operating plan is focused on comprehensive safety protocols, Kirkwood opened Friday with more than 180 acres of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain.
South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge donates $1000 to Family Resource Center
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/30/2020 - 2:59pmOver the past ten years, the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge has donated 50 Christmas food boxes annually to local families, delivering the boxes in recent years to the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center for distribution to families in need.
These boxes contained a complete Christmas Ham dinner for a family of four, plus enough extra food to last for several additional meals. But, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year the Lodge was unable to hold its normal fundraisers and food collections to put the boxes together.

Heavenly Mountain Resort prepares for opening day Friday
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/18/2020 - 12:29pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Opening day at Heavenly Mountain Resort is planned for Friday, November 20, with ski and snowboard operations exclusive for all pass holders until December 8.
This year there are many changes due to COVID-19 and Vail says their goal is to prioritize pass holders, including those who have the Epic Day Pass. Those with passes need to reserve their day on the slopes as does the general non-pass holding public.
There will be no ticket sales at the Vail ski resorts this season and all is conducted virtually except for sightseeing rides.

53 South Lake Tahoe area nonprofits recipients of American Century Championship donation

Just as the popular golf event was unique and held without fans due to COVID-19 this year, it was a different type of ceremony handing out the money and the presentation of checks held virtually. Representatives from 53 nonprofits awarded the money were on the Thursday Zoom call.

Batten sentenced 26 years to life for his part in South Lake Tahoe murder

Less than one year later he was in South Lake Tahoe with a group of men accused of fatally shooting Dennis "Spike" Wright, Jr. over a drug deal at the Beverly Lodge.
South Lake Tahoe among first to receive homeless housing funds

"I wanted to create magic and had this idea for a long time," explained Sandra. She grew up in Holland where there were places where people would meet, talk and enjoy, and wanted that in South Lake Tahoe. She also grew up with a love of books that has stayed with her as she lived in Tunisia and now the United States. Books were both her inspiration and her escape.
Sierra-at-Tahoe releases their operational procedures for 20/21 winter season

They have released their new guidelines for this winter that allow everyone to enjoy the resort while staying safe and socially distant.

The Lodge has sponsored the tournament at Lake Baron inside Tahoe Paradise Park for 17 years and said they feel it important to follow state and county guidelines to avoid group gatherings and the safety and protection of children is paramount.
The Lodge had been planning on having the Optimists Club as co-sponsors this September after the Optimists had to cancel their fishing derby at Sawmill Pond earlier this summer.

Washoe County Marine 9 rescues couple from Lake Tahoe

Deputies aboard the boat were patrolling just northwest of the Thunderbird Lodge on the east shore when they spotted a number of items, including paddles and shoes, floating on the lake.

Edgewood Tahoe opens as Nevada lifts restrictions on some recreational activities

If Monday's opening day on the greens at Edgewood was any indication, golfers were ready to start swinging their clubs and start getting in rounds of golf. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for now, all tee times through Thursday were already booked before the first round was played.

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?

Events Center approved by Douglas County Commissioners

In a 3-2 vote, the commissioners approved bond issuance, the final step in the approval process. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) had previously unanimously approved it.

Vail CEO and his wife donate $2.5M to communities their resorts are located

Today, they announced a donation of more than $2.5 million to provide immediate support to those areas as all contend with the severe impacts of COVID-19.
Immediate emergency relief grants will total $1.5 million and will be distributed to communities including South Lake Tahoe.

Sales tax revenues increase in South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County

The quarter ending September 2019 shows the County's taxable sales in the unincorporated area grew by 4.3 percent when compared to the same period in 2018. In South Lake Tahoe, taxable sales grew by 6.0 percent. County-wide including both cities within its boundaries saw a 5.1 percent increase. In comparison, the Sacramento region was up 4.5 percent.

Fours years after man killed in South Lake Tahoe over pot deal, one trial begins

Wright, who was better known as Spike, never made it back to his home in River Pines, Amador County that night. Instead, he was shot and killed at about 7:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the motel.

Christopher Hendrickson has been arrested on charges of resisting arrest, escape from custody, corporal injury to his spouse, willful cruelty to a child, forcible entry into a property and felony vandalism.

To help them in these efforts, Waste Free Earth is on board to create an environment of sustainability through strict guidelines for vendors and sponsors, recycling waste bins throughout the event, and daily trash pickup and sorting.

For nine years the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge 1632 has supplied the boxes of supplies for Christmas dinner for local families in need, including a ham!

2nd annual Santa Fun Run on Ski Run to raise funds for SOS Outreach

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Jolly your way to the tippy-top of Ski Run Boulevard in your best, most festive Kris Kringle outfit on Sunday, December 15. This fun-filled jaunt from the Black Bear Lodge all the way up to the bar at Himmel Haus will benefit the local nonprofit, SOS Outreach.
Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase at the start and finish. A procession with city officer support will leave Black Bear Lodge at 3:30 p.m. A fun and lucrative raffle drawing will be during the after-party at Himmel Haus.

Prescribed fire operations continue in Tahoe Basin, weather and staffing permitting
