Locals launch Lake Tahoe Swimming Society

While it is cold and snowy outside now, swimming Lake Tahoe is the furthest from many minds. But not for a group of power swimmers who are preparing for water recreation after the snow melts.
Lake Tahoe swim enthusiasts Karen Rogers, adventure swimmer Jamie Patrick, local triathlete Rob Laurie, ski patroller Garrett Harley and photographer Brian Patterson and have announced the formation of the Lake Tahoe Swimming Society.
The society was created out of the desire to provide information and give aid to those who are interested in swimming or have swam in Lake Tahoe. Plus, those who are interest in preserving history, creating community, and promoting conservation, according to its website.

According to the Lake Tahoe Swimming Association, founded by Karen Rogers, there have been 22 successful single crossing of Lake Tahoe, three single wetsuit crossings and one double wetsuit crossings.

The society vows to provide information for those attempting solo crossings, both by English Channel rules or adventure swims; provide correct courses, routes, safety, preparation, weather, local tips and more. The society and its website are designed as a place to share stories, photos and videos from all those who swim in Lake Tahoe.
