LTUSD warns South Lake Tahoe residents of tutoring scam
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/25/2018 - 5:53pm
Officials from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) are warning residents that an individual or company is making phone calls and/or going to homes in our area and offering tutoring services.
The fake tutors are telling families that their child's school sent them. In return for the services they are asking for credit card numbers or cash.
According to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, a woman by the name of Marycarmen Estrada has contacted at least one local family to provide tutoring services.
Be advised that the tutoring services described here are not sanctioned or sponsored by LTUSD or any local schools, even though Estrada is saying she is from LTUSD.
It is unknown how they found the families as LTUSD does not share any student information with third parties unless required by law.
Please report any suspected fraudulent solicitations to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at (530) 542-6100.
