South Lake Tahoe model wins Nevada favorite model's contest

Thousands of people have been voting on Facebook for the Northern Nevada Favorite Model's contest over the past several weeks and a South Tahoe High graduate ended up on top, winning by a few hundred votes.

Kelsey Adams, daughter of DR. Steve Adams and Colleen Karcher, has been modeling for several years. She entered the contest for fun, not sure of what to expect.

"I was really afraid of it being a very snobby competition with caddy girls," Adams said. "I was impressed at the support we all had for each other! Most of us have planned to work together in the future or shared some information on the industry."

Part of the allure of the contest for Adams was the ability to choose a local charity to highlight and sponsor through winnings. She chose South Tahoe High School's ALLY club, a gay-straight alliance group on campus.

"They have a special place in my heart,: Adams said of her choice. "They build the strengths of those in the gay community. Whether they are coming out or friends of those coming out they help students and teach them proper values. To tolerate, to judge not, to understand hate and love, to recognize differences and be ok with them, the situations in the real world, and even what you'll go through in life in the LGBT community."

Adams will receive her reward during a ceremony at Harrah's Reno on February 19 in Sammy's Showroom. There will be a red carpet walk and ceremony starting at 7 p.m.
When asked what is next for her, she replied "I'm a very busy gal in my everyday life but I think this competition will have a few positive outlets in the near future. The exposure I get will be for my community not myself. I've done this for a long time and I'm happy to represent our locals as a whole."

"I am so blessed to have so much support from everyone, in this area or not! I was shocked at the results," she said.
