An 18-year-old Carson City, Nev., man died early Monday morning after being struck by a car as he was walking on IR-580 in the Washoe Valley.
Just after 1:07 a.m. on February 8, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the accident scene just north of the Bellevue Road overpass. Their investigation indicates that Chile Bartels was walking northbound in the slow lane of the highway when a car driven by 42-year-old Sparks resident James Dolan hit Bartels.
Dolan pulled over and parked according to the NHP.
Due to the injuries sustained during the course of the crash, Bartels was pronounced on scene.
The northbound lanes of IR580 were closed between Bellevue Road and Bowers for several hours during the course of the investigation.
This report is in its preliminary stages at this time and is still under investigation. Dolan was the sole occupant inside the vehicle at the time of the crash, and was later arrested on warrants unassociated with this event and transported to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
NHP Trooper Ortega is investigating this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information related to this incident is encouraged to reach out to him at (775) 688-2500 or mortega@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-160200708.
