Large numbers applying for California Driver's Licenses under AB60

California is experiencing just what Nevada and states who have issued first time driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants, long lines and large numbers of applicants. In the first month, over 236,000 people have applied statewide under AB60.

California AB60allows for the immigrants to apply for a license even though they don't have the normally required identification.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today released numbers today, showing that of the 113,172 driver's licenses issued in January, 59,000 of them were for drivers applying under AB60. In comparison, 74,028 licenses were issued in the state in January of 2014.

Here are other facts and figures:

374,000: Number of AB 60 customer visits (the AB 60 customers provided a ticket at the “Start Here” window, which can include starting an application, taking and exam or other transactions)

236,000: Number of AB 60 applicants applying for a license (process started)

962,000: Total statewide driver license customer visits (the total number of DL related visits statewide, which includes AB 60 applicants along with all driver license customer visits in January)

429,000: Total number of written knowledge and drive tests administered to AB 60 applicants (DMV administered 362,000 written knowledge tests and 67,000 drive tests to AB 60 applicants in January)

48%: Statewide written knowledge exam passage rate for all applicants for a new driver license (Includes AB 60 applicants. For comparison, 47% of applicants passed the written knowledge test in 2014).

67%: Statewide drive test passage rate for all applicants for a new driver license (Includes AB 60 applicants. For comparison, 61% of applicants passed the drive test in 2014.)
