When personnel from Douglas County East Fork Fire District responded to a call of a hazardous material spill in Minden on Wednesday, they didn't know what they would find.
The call took them to an abandoned warehouse located at 1180 Angela Court where they found the hazardous materials. They requested assistance from the Quad County Hazmat Team as they didn't know what was spilled inside.
During the initial assessment, fire crews located two different types of acid so they took precautionary measures to insure that leaks has stopped from the containers inside the building.
Several surrounding businesses were evacuated and Nowlin Road was closed. Crews anticipate being on scene for several hours. Clean up of the site is being coordinated within the response of the Quad County Hazmat Team.
Crews found that the acid was not an environmental concern and turned the building over to the property manager and a contracted hazardous material clean-up crew at approximately 5:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
The Quad County Hazamat Team is comprised of Carson City Fire, Storey County Fire, Lyon County Fire and Douglas County.
