El Dorado County Court News: Huntsman awaits trial in SLT; Conviction in Crime Ring

Suspected arsonist Wayne Huntsman remains in the county jail in South Lake Tahoe, awaiting his court trial. Huntsman is accused of setting the September, 2014 King Fire which burned almost 100,000 acres near Pollock Pines.

A trial setting conference has been set for March 13 in Department 2 of Superior Court of El Dorado County.

In other court news, 27-year-old Bradley Zaun was found guilty of three felony counts of first-degree residential burglary and two counts of attempted burglary. The conviction stems from a drug fueled 2013 crime spree during the months of October and November.

According to the El Dorado County District Attorney's office, Zaun, a parolee, and several other co-conspirators began burlgarizing homes from Pollock Pine to Shingle Springs. The burglary ring would knock on the front door of a residence and if the homeowner answered the door, the defendants would leave. If no one answered the door, the defendants would gain entry through an unlocked door or force. On at least one occasion the residents were home during the burglary and the defendants were able to avoid arrest.

Zaun is to be sentenced April 10 in El Dorado County Superior Court. The other members of the ring have already guilty or are awaiting trail.
