More changes in the weather are in store this week as a winter storm, which may produce strong winds and heavy snow, is expected to arrive in the Lake Tahoe Basin by Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
A low pressure system is due to arrive in the region Tuesday night ahead of the storm and continue into Wednesday. A period of heavy snow is likely in the northern Sierra late Tuesday night through Wednesday. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for western Lassen County south to the Lake Tahoe Basin, where a foot or more of snow is possible in the higher elevations and a foot or less below 7,000 feet.
A High Wind Watch is in effect along Highway 395 from Reno south through Mono County. Gusts up to 60 mph are possible in the watch area, with gusts to 70 mph in wind prone areas and Sierra ridge gusts over 100 mph, according to the weather service. Wind and snow will impact travel through Wednesday, so be prepared for winter driving conditions.
