New Mexican Bistro opens in Meyers

El Fresco Mexican Bistro has brought a new flavor to the heart of Meyers.
Locals Tim and Kristi Cain moved into the space vacated by Verde and spent weeks creating the new restaurant and menu. They own "Freel Perk" next door so they were excited to offer cuisine that fits not only their active lifestyle, but features a large menu with tapas, 11 breakfast choices, fajitas, tacos, burritos, salads, veggie bowls, soups and much more.
The flavors that chef Jeremy Sherman has thoughtfully created can be tasted in every bite. His crafted food will fit all appetites, from gluten-free, vegan, "gluten-ful" and everything in between. A couple of the featured items are Almond-Tortilla Crusted Mexican Seabass and a Surf 'N Turf Burrito.
"He has flair and he is passionate," Tim said of Chef Jeremy. They have to-go orders but its a treat to eat in as that flair and presentation can be experienced first hand.
"We have great staff and a great experience," said Tim.
The Cains have been involved in their kids' sports, school and activities, but with the youngest now a sophomore in college they found a little more time. They continue to work in real estate, with their office in the same Meyers Station complex and their two food and drink spots.
"We want to give back to the community, work, be involved and watch others raise their kids," said Tim.
He has lived on the South Shore since he was five-years-old and graduated from South Tahoe High in 1987. Kristi has also spent years in Tahoe, graduating from STHS in 1985.
"We've been blessed to grow up here and raise our kids here," said Tim.
He said he hopes both El Fresco and Freel Perk can become a hub of the community, a place for the community to connect. Outside there is a fire pit in the shape of a heart, hence the "heart of Meyers." They plan on having music every Wednesday evening in the heart along with other events. The bike path goes right in front of the Meyers Station and they'll be adding fat tire bike racks to attract those out enjoying the terrain. He is part of the Meyers Community Foundation, and community plays a big part in his and Kristi's lives.
El Fresco Mexican Bistro is on the south side of Highway 50 in Meyers in the Meyers Station. They are open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m for now, with hours expected to expand in summer. They can be found on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ElFrescoMexicanBistro/, and their phone number is 530.577.5304.
