The South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club is sponsoring a new Sea Scout Ship for high school students and they are looking for five adult volunteers over the age of 21 to help. Local youth will learn small boat handling, sailing, wooden boat care and cruising.
There will be an adult training session on Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m.
Sea Scouts, B.S.A., is the second oldest program in the Boy Scouts of America, and is for young men and young women, ages 13 and a graduate of the 8th grade to 21. Sea Scouts have hands-on adventure on the water, learn character development through education, and make lifelong friends.
The new South Lake Tahoe Ship will focus on kayaking, stand-up paddleboards, and small boat sailing. Scouts will learn leadership skills, navigation, marlinspike, plus many other maritime skills.
The informational meeting for interested volunteers will be hosted at South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club, located at 2435 Venice Dr. E, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. Please register at Rebekah.havard@scouting.org or 775-787-1111 ext 25.
