"The Three Amigas" Return Home to South Lake Tahoe

Crystal blue skies and a bright yellow sun shone down on the golden girls of Lake Tahoe Saturday as the communities of Meyers and South Lake Tahoe turned out in force for a welcome home parade.

Maddie Bowman, Jamie Anderson and Hannah Teter, the self proclaimed "Three Amigas" were honored with a parade through South Lake Tahoe and Meyers which ended with a large celebration at Sierra at Tahoe. All three of these local athletes call the mountain ski resort their home away from home. Both Bowman and Anderson grew up on the slopes of Sierra at Tahoe, and Teter moved to the area after experiencing the resort when visiting her brother in 2002.

All three local girls have won Olympic gold medals, Anderson and Bowman in Sochi,Russia and Teter in Torino, Italy.

As the procession passed by The Divided Sky in Meyers, where a large group had gathered to welcome home the local girls, the crowd started chanting "USA, USA, USA." The Olympians responded with jumps of joy and waving to their fans.

From the parade's beginning at South Tahoe High School, the streets were lined with flag bearing fans, balloons and lots of signs greeting the three girls.

With the support of the south shore communities behind them, the "Golden Girls" performed in front of the world in Sochi. Proud locals called for a parade the moment Jamie won the first South Lake Tahoe gold medal of the games. Then with Hannah just missing the podium and Maddie winning gold, parade plans were started immediately.

Sierra at Tahoe, the City of South Lake Tahoe and the town of Meyers joined forces and put on a day for everyone to remember. The Olympians rode on top of an old fire engine in the parade, driven by Jamie's firefighter brother Luke. The procession of cars included fire and safety vehicles and a classic car with some of the City Council and the local Supervisor on board.
