The Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care Center has been a significant part of South Lake Tahoe's community for 37 years. The founders, Tom and Cheryl Milham, have cared for orphaned and injured animals out of their home, and plans are now in place to move the center to the corner of Al Tahoe Blvd and Pioneer Trail.
Twenty-seven acres on the corner will be home to a full scale wildlife rehabilitation center, an area to view the care and treatment of injured wildlife, a wildlife sanctuary that provides free-roaming areas within natural habitat, and a long-term home for animals and birds that cannot be reintroduced into the wild.
Plans include a caretaker's home, gift shop and demonstration center.
