Man suffers life-threatening injuries after running into snow plow

A man from Reno, Nevada suffered life-threatening injuries on just after midnight on Saturday after his car hit the back of a snow plow on US-395 northbound near the Parr Boulevard

A preliminary investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) shows that a silver 2014 Nissan Sentra driven by a 44-year-old man was traveling northbound on US-395 in the second travel lane from the left. A yellow Mack Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) snow plow was traveling northbound on US-395 in the left-hand travel lane, ahead of the silver Nissan. The NDOT snow plow was performing
sanding operations for the icy road conditions with its warning lights activated.

The driver of the Nissan was traveling too fast for the icy roadway conditions and lost control of the Nissan which traveled into the left-hand travel lane. The left front of the Nissan Sentra struck the right rear of the NDOT snow plow. The Nissan overturned and came to rest near the Parr Boulevard northbound off ramp.

The driver of the Nissan, a 44-year old Reno resident, was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Nevada Department of Transportation snow plow claimed minor injuries.

Speed and impairment are suspected on the driver of the Nissan and will be part of the ongoing investigation.

Motorists are advised to drive at a safe distance and only pass snow plows when a safe, legal passing lane is available and adequately cleared of snow.
