Judi McCallum leaves her El Dorado County post to pursue passions

For the past 26 years, Judi McCallum has been keeping the El Dorado County Supervisors from Lake Tahoe organized, on schedule, and connected to those they serve.

"I have had such a great run as a Supervisor's Assistant at the County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors doing exactly what I love most, helping people," McCallum told South Tahoe Now during her first hour of retirement.

Since 1991 she has worked for four District V Supervisors, with 18 elected Supervisors down the hallway, more than 10 Chief Administrators or Interims, and 1,600 "amazing" county employees.

On Tuesday, she cleaned out her office to pursue her passions.

"You can bet it involves kids, horses, voluntourism, sparkling wine, cycling and maybe Burning Man (at least once in my life!)," she said. McCallum tried out some of that 'voluntourism' during a recent trip to Australia where she worked at a winery trimming the vineyard. She wants to do more traveling to other countries to help others.

As she prepares for her first day of not getting up and heading to the office, Judi wanted to pass on the following comments:

"I want to thank my family of co-workers, my fellow Supervisors' Assistants, my Clerk of the Board colleagues, the County Christmas Choir, and all of the hard working professionals I've been surrounded by for more than two decades. They do such a great job and for very little, if any, recognition, and I'd like them to know, 'what you do makes a difference and I celebrate you'."

"As for the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors, elected by the people, and representing 30+ thousand residents in each of the five districts, making difficult decisions on countywide projects and issues, you are by far the best County Board I have experienced in a very long time. I admire the board's dedication, compassion and sensitivity in making serious and difficult decisions that provide the greatest balance and benefits for all," said McCallum.

She said she felt this was a perfect time to bid the county farewell and to venture off to explore exciting destinations and duties.

"I leave with incredible love in my heart, and the satisfaction that what I did truly mattered to so many," said McCallum. "Wishing you all peace, civility and tolerance knowing that you will contribute to bettering this world as your purpose and mission."

You will see her from time to time at local venues playing the guitar and entertaining people.

We wish you the best Judi!
