Police: South Lake Tahoe man confesses to El Dorado Savings Bank robbery

A 29-year-old South Lake Tahoe man has confessed to the March 7 robbery of El Dorado Savings Bank, South Lake Tahoe police confirm.

Paul Cortez was arrested by Reno police and booked into Washoe County Jail where he will be transferred to South Lake Tahoe and booked into El Dorado County Jail. Police say he confessed to details about the robbery and how much money was taken.

Below is a news release on the matter issued by Lieutenant David Stevenson of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MARCH 7TH BANK ROBBERY

South Lake Tahoe, CA - On 3/21/13 in the late afternoon, South Lake Tahoe Police Detectives working jointly with the FBI (South Lake Tahoe and Reno office) developed information the suspect who robbed El Dorado Savings Bank on March 7th in South Lake Tahoe was in Reno, NV.

SLTPD Detective Nick Carlquist and the FBI contacted Paul Cortez (29 years old from South Lake Tahoe) in Reno, NV. Cortez confessed to the robbery including specific details of how the robbery occurred and how much money was taken. After interviewing Cortez, Detective Carlquist returned to South Lake Tahoe and obtained an arrest warrant for Cortez. Cortez was later arrested by Reno PD and booked into the Washoe County jail for the warrant. Transfer back to South Lake Tahoe/El Dorado County Jail is pending.
