Man survives after jumping out of car going 50 mph in Genoa

A man jumped out of the car he was riding in on Thursday evening after learning his girlfriend wanted to end their relationship.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on March 29, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to the area of Genoa Lane and Galeppi Lane after it was reported that a man was jumping out of a moving vehicle.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 25-year-old Genoa, Nevada resident lying in the shoulder of the roadway. He was semi-conscious but breathing. His eyelids were fluttering and he was moaning, but otherwise unresponsive and had numerous abrasions and lacerations to his arms, face and head, according to DCSO.

The driver was at the scene and explained to deputies that she had been driving her vehicle westbound on Genoa Lane with the injured man as her passenger. As they were driving, she told him she wanted to "break up." He asked if they could "work this out," and she said no. The man then opened the passenger door of the vehicle and jumped out. The vehicle was estimated to have been traveling approximately 50 mph at the time. As he landed he rolled several times.

The man was stabilized on-scene by paramedics, and subsequently careflighted to Renown Medical Center in Reno. He was later released after being treated for numerous abrasions and lacerations sustained in the incident.
