Double homicide suspect in custody after South Lake Tahoe to Douglas County pursuit

UPDATE 8:30AM 4/27/19: An observant officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) was on patrol near the Heavenly Village at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday night when he saw a car listed on a Bay Area police "Be On The Lookout" report go through an intersection. The report said the driver was a suspect in two homicides, one in each Oakland and San Francisco.
He followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over with the assistance of another officer, but the driver took off and a pursuit began.
The two SLTPD officers followed the Toyota Corolla over Kingsbury Grade (SR207) as Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was getting into position at the bottom of the hill. They followed until about three-quarters of the way down when DCSO took over according to Jason Cheney of the SLTPD.
Shortly after that, the Corolla crashed about one-quarter mile west of Foothill Road, on Hwy 207. The suspect shot at DCSO deputies, striking a sergeant in the hand. He then surrendered to authorities without incident and was taken into custody.
Arrested was 43-year-old Stefon Jefferson.
The sergeant was transported by Care Flight to Renown Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was going to have surgery on his hand.
No shots were fired at SLTPD.
Cheney said deputies from El Dorado County Sheriff's Office came into South Lake Tahoe from the West Slope to help cover the City during this incident.
Kingsbury Grade was closed overnight and is now in the process of being reopened.
UPDATE 11:26PM: A Douglas County sheriff's sergeant suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the hand Friday night following a vehicle pursuit that began in South Lake Tahoe.
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said multiple agencies are involved as part of a mutual aid agreement and that the Carson City Sheriff's Office is part of the investigating team as well as the Nevada Department of Public Safety's Investigation Division.
The sergeant was taken to the hospital with injuries to the hand. The male suspect is in custody.
According to the San Francisco Police Department's Twitter feed, the man arrested in Douglas County was 43-year-old Stefon Jefferson, a man wanted for a double homicide in the Bay Area on Friday. At the time he was wanted in the Bay Area he was driving a black 4-door Toyota Corolla.
South Lake Tahoe Police was involved in the pursuit, which began at the south shore and moved across the state line into Douglas County. No other officers were injured. Kingsbury Grade has been closed as officers investigate the incident.

The Douglas County officer was taken to the hospital with injuries to the hand. It has been reported that the injured officer is a sergeant. The male suspect is in custody.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - An officer was shot Friday night after a vehicle pursuit that began in South Lake Tahoe and ended at the bottom of Kingsbury Grade in Douglas County.
At least one officer was shot in the hand, according to Douglas County dispatch. A Care Flight helicopter has been called and will land in the area of Foothill Road and Kingsbury. The suspect fled on foot but is now in custody.
The pursuit began at around 9:40 p.m. in the South Lake Tahoe area, went up State Route 207 Kingsbury Grade. Multiple agencies were called to respond including the Carson City Sheriff's Office, which had moved its patrol units to the Mica Drive area to set up spikes.
Kingsbury is closed and will remain closed until the investigation is over. Use alternate routes until further notice.
It is unclear at this time what led to the pursuit. The suspect is believed to be a man wanted in the Bay Area for murder.
