April 4, 2015 - 10:00am
The drought in California has created regulations that are having all homes and businesses reduce water usage by 25%. The South Tahoe Yearbook staff had planned Saturday's carwash before the Governor's message, and instead of canceling they have created a new event: A Waterless Carwash!
STHS and Cardinale Way saw an opportunity to not only help spread the message to reduce water usage, but also to lead by example.
The Carwash event is still happening tomorrow morning at Cardinale Way from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., AND it is now a “waterless carwash”! Come down to Cardinale Way to see how this is being done. STHS students will make your windows clear, your tires shine, and your car interior clean. No water will be used. All donations will go to the Yearbook program.
Additionally, Raleys has joined their efforts by contributing coupons for using their carwash facility that responsibly recycles the water. The first 100 cars to come through the waterless carwash will receive one of these coupons.
The Every Viking Gets a Yearbook program will be the beneficiary of this fundraiser. Principal Chad Houck feels yearbooks are important for all students to have and he didn't want cost to get in the way. Some students cannot afford the $50 per yearbook cost so donations will help them receive the books.
STHS would like to thank Cardinale Way, Raleys, and Tahoe TV for supporting our efforts to make the Yearbook program a huge success. The South Tahoe Viking Booster Club just donated $2,500 to the cause.
