South Lake Tahoe City Clerk Wins California State Award

South Lake Tahoe City Clerk Susan Alessi received the 2014 Presidential Award of Excellence from the City Clerk’s Association of California. Ms. Alessi was presented with the Presidential Award at the annual conference which was held in Pasadena and attended by hundreds of City Clerks from around the state.

“Ms. Alessi is an outstanding and exemplary public servant,” said City Manager Nancy Kerry. “She exemplifies the true meaning of being a City Clerk. She is responsive to the public, expediently provides information requested and works closely with our management team, the City Council and staff to ensure that all public requests are complete and timely and thorough. As the City’s Elections’ Official she handles elections matters and is the consummate professional in her field. She helps to maintain the public’s trust and confidence in the City by her excellent service to the community. We are proud of this recognition for Ms. Alessi; it is well deserved.”

Ms. Alessi’s distinguished career with the City Clerk’s office began in 1986. Ms. Alessi was appointed as the Deputy City Clerk in 1989 where she served until her election as City Clerk in 2002. During her years at the City she obtained designation as a Certified Municipal Clerk earned through the professional education and development program of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.

The City Clerk serves an important role in City Government. The Clerk serves as the City’s Legislative Administrator, preparing the Legislative Agenda for City Council, verification of appropriate public and legal notice postings, serves as the City’s Official Records Manager and ensures the preservation of all City records for historical reference. The City Clerk maintains the official index of the City’s Minutes, Ordinances and Resolutions adopted by the City Council. The City Clerk is also the City’s Election’s Official and administers City elections and provides assistance to candidates as well as proponents of initiatives and propositions. The City Clerk for the City of South Lake Tahoe is an integral member of the City’s Executive Management and Leadership Team serving the community of South Lake Tahoe.
