Maciej Stebel sworn in as Douglas County Deputy

From Poland to Caesars Tahoe to Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Maciej Stebel was sworn in as the department's newest deputy sheriff on Monday, May 9, 2016.

Stebel was sworn by Sheriff Ron Pierini at the Douglas County Judicial Building. Several captains, sergeants, deputies and staff, as well as his wife Beth, family and close friends came to support him in his new position which he worked so hard to attain.

Deputy Stebel was born in Poland, and came to South Lake Tahoe when he was 23-years-old to work at Caesars Tahoe during a summer break from college. He immediately loved Lake Tahoe because of the beautiful lake, mountains and his love for the outdoors. Due to his visa expiring he had to return to Poland, but was determined to return to live in Lake Tahoe and become a United States citizen. He had to return to Poland back and forth three times while applying for various visas throughout the years. Finally his dream of becoming a US citizen became a reality on May 2, 2014.

While working at the casinos in Stateline, Nevada he began watching and interacting with the Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies and realized he wanted a career as a peace officer. He applied and began the rigorous hiring procedures which included a written and physical agility tests, oral interviews, background check, psychological testing, medical exam and a polygraph test. He turned down a job offer for another law enforcement agency to remain in beautiful Douglas County.

Stebel loves the community because of the small town feel; he also loves the outdoors and plans to spend his career with the Douglas County Sheriff’s office and raise his family in the community.

Deputy Stebel will be assigned to the jail under the command of Captain Jim Halsey.
