"Pay it Forward Day" at California Burger in South Lake Tahoe

Proceeds at California Burger today go back to the employees. Yes, you read that right!

Just as he did last year, owner Ted Kennedy is having a 'pay-it-forward' day again at the popular hamburger spot at the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe.

"All profits for the day will be given back to the employees," said Kennedy. "It's their money and they can do with it as they wish, but the hope is that they will use it to help someone less fortunate in their community."

When Kennedy started this, one employee gave their portion to a homeless person while another helped a friend pay rent.

Besides this way of giving back to the community at California Burger, Azul Latin Kitchen, another local restaurant Kennedy is part of, has been offering those who serve - police officer, firefighters, paramedics/EMTs, nurses and teachers - a free meal on Wednesdays in May. Over at his other restaurant, BaseCamp Pizza, "Local Hero's Day" is every Wednesday, year-round. One free entree to those serving the community in the same positions. All three of three restaurants are in Heavenly Village, South Lake Tahoe.

Kennedy said he'd like to see this concept grow in South Lake Tahoe at other businesses.

California Burger is located on the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd (Hwy 50) and Heavenly Village Way and will be open 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m.
