Spirit Bike Parade of Nearly 1,200 Cyclists Rolls Though South Lake Tahoe to Break World Record

More than a thousand cyclists peddled their way through South Lake Tahoe on a breezy Thursday afternoon to break a Guinness Book of World Record by forming the longest single file line of bicycles.
Organizers said nearly 1,200 bicyclists had signed in by the 4 p.m. start time. Many cyclists were clad in costumes and face paint, all in the spirit of fun. The South Lake Tahoe bicycle group Slow Rollers has sponsored the second annual Spirit Bike Parade Thursday and its attempt to break the world record by forming the longest single line of bicycles. The record is held by the City of Davis of 916 bicycles. With nearly 1,200 cyclists on board Thursday, it looked promising that the record would be broken, said Richard Cutright, one of several event coordinators.
"They ran out of tickets and someone went to print out more," Cutright said. "This is a great turnout. Last year we had 500 riders and it was mostly word of mouth. This year everyone has been talking about it and there's all the social media and all the fliers that went out."

A final tally of the riders will be released once every slip of paper is counted, Cutright said.
The route went up Lake Tahoe Boulevard with a stop at the Visitors Center across from Rojos. That's where the video tape began to roll designed to record every rider. The escorted ride from front to back continued to MontBleu with an after party at Mo's Place.
