SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Crews have been working on the Community Play Field this month, repairing damage occurred during last year's SnowGlobe.
New sod was installed this week and the playfield should be ready for young soccer players in a about a month.
Come Up For Air, the annual soccer tournament in South Lake Tahoe, will be held June 16-17. The current plan is to have the youngest players, who aren't as hard on fields as the older kids, to be placed on the new sod.
SnowGlobe organizers paid approximately $201,000 to replace the field. In future years they have prepared a plan that will protect the fields, but will still put up the $250,000 bond as they did in 2017 for any unforeseen circumstances.
The contractor for the project was Garden Shop Nursery Landscaping Division, Inc. and the work started on April 23 and was completed Friday, May 18.
City staff has enclosed the area with orange fencing and ask that the community not walk on the field for approximately 30 days while the sod is actively growing. They said they appreciate the community’s patience and support and will advise when the orange fencing is removed and the sod is sufficiently intact with regrowth.
