The election of Board Members is governed by various sections of the State of California Government Code, Public Utility District Act, and Elections Code. Elections are conducted according to the El Dorado County Registrar of Voters and adhere to the provisions of law relating to the manner of holding and conducting general elections for the election of State and County officers.
The five members of the Board of Directors are elected by popular vote of the general public who reside within the boundaries of the District. Each candidate for Director is elected by receiving the greatest number of votes district-wide as there are Directors to be elected. Employees of the District may not be either an elected or appointed member of the Board without first resigning as an employee. If the employee does not resign, the employment is automatically terminated upon being sworn into office.
