South Lake Tahoe police investigate suspected murder-suicide

A man found dead and hanging from a tree Friday in an apparent suicide may have been involved in a homicide being investigated since Wednesday, South Lake Tahoe authorities report.

On Wednesday, June 20, around 2:30pm South Lake Tahoe Police Officers responded to the Lone Pine Lodge in South Lake Tahoe to investigate a report of a suspicious circumstance. Management reported hearing a child crying from one of the rooms and became concerned. Officers entered the room and located a deceased woman on the bed and her crying 2 year old child, said Lt. David Stevenson of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

The woman has been identified as Lyra Fisher-Bomediano, 43, from South Lake Tahoe. There was no one else in the room. Officers did not observe any obvious signs of what may have caused the woman’s death. The child was uninjured and is in the care of Child Protective Services. An autopsy was performed on Lyra Fisher on Friday and her death appears to be a homicide.

Since June 20, South Lake Tahoe police have been looking for Lyra’s husband, Aaron Fisher, 41, for questioning concerning the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. It was reported to police that Fisher recently moved back to South Lake Tahoe from Hawaii about one week ago. He is reported to be the father of the two-year-old child found with Lyra, Stevenson said.

On Friday, June 22 at about 1:25 p.m. South Lake Tahoe police responded to the forested fire road area near Heavenly Village Way, the site of the old Tahoe Colony. Police arrived and located Fisher hanging from a tree, just outside the City limits in El Dorado County. The preliminary investigation shows Aaron’s death was likely a suicide.

This case is still under investigation by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
