The remnants of post-tropical system Fabio will spread across the Sierra and western Nevada Thursday afternoon, bringing the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms to the Lake Tahoe region through the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday with gusts possible of 35 mph.
Some storms could produce dry lightning strikes outside of the rain cores. There remains a concern for lightning-initiated fires which could spread due to gusty outflow winds from these thunderstorms. Brief heavy rain is also possible late this afternoon, but no significant risk of flooding exists.
As the system blows through, sunny skies are expected for the Lake Tahoe Basin on Friday, with a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Saturday.
