Seven finalists seek job of Douglas County Manager; Public invited to meet them

The job of Douglas County Manager has been vacant since the departure of Steve Mokrohisky in April. He took the job of County Administrator in Lane County, Oregon.

His replacement has been narrowed down to seven candidates and the public has the chance to meet all of them during a reception on Monday, August 4 at the Carson Valley Inn Ballroom from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The finalists are Richard Benson, County Administrator in Mariposa County; Mary Lou Brown, City Administrator for the City of Grand Island, NE; Curtis Calder, City Manager for Elko, NV; Charlie Cassens, City Manager for Lake Havasu City, AZ; Timothy Hacker, Interim Director of Parks & Recreation for the City of Las Vegas, NV and past City Manager for the City of North Las Vegas; James Nichols, Former Asst. City Manager in Midland, TX; Christine Vuletich, Asst. County Manager and CFO for Douglas County and former Director of Finance for South Lake Tahoe.

During the reception, each candidate will briefly discuss their qualifications for the position and converse with the public. Each candidates qualifications can be reviewed on the County’s Website at www.douglascountynv.gov.

The search firm Peckham and McKenney received 71 applications for Douglas County Manager. On July 17th, Phil McKenney presented his top candidates to the Board of County Commissioners. The 7 recommended candidates will all visit Douglas County on August 4th and 5th for a series of interviews, a tour of the community, and the social reception. Candidates will be interviewed by the BOCC at a special meeting on August 18th.
