Open house and garden sale at South Lake Tahoe Library Garden

Event Date:
August 7, 2018 - 3:30pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It takes more than soil and seeds to make a garden, it takes nutrients and care, and in the case of the memorial garden at the South Lake Tahoe Library, it takes a love of books and the color purple.

Barbara Berezin-Kearney, affectionately known as BB, was a Literacy Specialist at South Lake Tahoe Library who spent endless hours teaching people to read at the library and jail so they could have a better future. After her passing in 2002, a memorial garden was built to remember her warm, loving and caring personality.

The University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, a group of trained volunteers that educate the public on practical and scientific garden information, have recently revived BB’s garden with Tahoe friendly plants. Remembering BB’s love of purple, you’ll find purple flowers in bloom throughout the garden.

Join the UCCE Master Gardeners for the unveiling of the newly renovated BB’s Garden and learn how to make your home garden Tahoe Friendly on Tuesday, August 7 fro 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A concert on the lawn by The Tahoe Bagpiper begins at 6:00 p.m.

There will also be a small plant sale and light refreshments during the open house at the El Dorado County Library in South Lake Tahoe, located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.
