Driver arrested after hitting 18-year-old cyclist, then running him over

UPDATE 8/29/17 8:00AM - A 63-year-old man has been arrested on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon after he allegedly ran over the 18-year-old cyclist he thought stole his son's bicycle.

Esteban Hernandez Cuenca was arrested and is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on $25,000 bail.

The unidentified victim was air lifted to Renown Medical Center with serious injuries. His current condition is unknown.

Both men are from South Lake Tahoe.

UPDATE: 8:30PM - An 18-year man has been Care Flighted to Renown Medical Center in Reno after he was struck by a car on Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe Monday evening.

At 7:32 p.m., the unidentified man was riding his bike when struck by a vehicle going an estimated 35 mph. The driver then ran over the man.

The victim was transported to Reno with a possible spinal cord injury as well as other major injuries, according to South Lake Tahoe Fire Battalion Chief Jim Drennan.

The driver, also unidentified at this time, has been arrested.

There was a collision on Pioneer Trail and Shepherds Street in South Lake Tahoe Monday evening. At this moment, details are not available but Care Flight is landing in the parking lot at Heavenly Mountain Resort to transport a victim.
