That mission took on new meaning beginning in mid-March with the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak when record numbers of individuals seeking food assistance from the various programs and services provided by B & B.

New Vail Resorts report highlights community and sustainability achievements

In the Lake Tahoe area, $1.9 million in grants was given to 93 local organizations.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The next public US Highway 50 Main Street Management Plan open house will be held on Tuesday, August 27 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel Tallac Room from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The event will consist of a series of informational stations where residents can give input on the planning stages of this transformational project. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) are seeking comments as different options for the design of the corridor come into focus.
Free food for South Lake Tahoe youth all summer with Bread & Broth 4 Kids program
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/14/2019 - 1:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the third consecutive summer, the St. Theresa Bread & Broth 4 Kids Summer Program will provide weekly food bags for South Lake Tahoe youth until school resumes in August. During the school year more than 2,000 local students receive free or reduced cost meals at breakfast and lunch, but that program doesn't cover weekends or summers and that is where Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) comes in. In the 2018-19 school year, BB4K supplied over 180 bags of food each Friday to local youth and last summer 225 bags of food were given away each week.

The next phase of the Highway 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project (SSCRP) begins with an open house on its Main Street Management Plan on Wednesday, May 29 at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) office from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to drop in any time.
SSCRP, commonly referred to as the Loop Road Project, will include seven more key components to be completed by the TRPA and Tahoe Transportation District (TTD). The first of those components is the Main Street Management Plan.

Search ends for missing skier at Heavenly Mountain Resort
Submitted by paula on Tue, 02/19/2019 - 9:32amUPDATE 12:30 p.m. - Heavenly Ski Patrol, with the assistance of a K9 search dog, have located the body of Brett Herrick in the Aries Woods, about 100 feet from the groomed trail. He was immersed in deep snow and found at about 10:00 a.m.
Initial investigation indicates Herrick crashed into very deep powder and could not self-rescue and likely suffocated or died from exposure. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The next of kin has been notified.

Rotarians honor Lake Tahoe area veterans

Club member Brian Williams, US Marines (retired), organized this year's event as he does each year, inviting local veterans for lunch and a program. The Marine Corps 242nd birthday fell on the event this year, and the former Marine had a special birthday for the attendees to enjoy.
Driver arrested after hitting 18-year-old cyclist, then running him over
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/28/2017 - 7:03pmUPDATE 8/29/17 8:00AM - A 63-year-old man has been arrested on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon after he allegedly ran over the 18-year-old cyclist he thought stole his son's bicycle.
Esteban Hernandez Cuenca was arrested and is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on $25,000 bail.
The unidentified victim was air lifted to Renown Medical Center with serious injuries. His current condition is unknown.
Both men are from South Lake Tahoe.

The holding company, owned by Kawana Holdings, will own "air rights" above the existing retail area, related parking and the garage structure, the former convention center pad. The seller, Owens Realty Mortgage Inc., keeps the existing retail buildings and improvements that are home to McP's, Dough and various shops.

Over 1,300 locals and visitors gathered inside the Harvey’s convention center, Friday, March 31, as Tahoe Chamber Member businesses showcased their latest programs, products, and services.
The night was highlighted with live entertainment from Heavenly Resort Mountain and The Loft Lounge, vendor giveaways including a raffle of two cruisers bikes courtesy of South Shore Bikes, and tasty food and beverage samples from all the generous restaurant vendors.
Flooding around Lake Tahoe prompts road closures
Submitted by paula on Wed, 02/08/2017 - 3:05pmA flood warning remains in effect for South Lake Tahoe until Wednesday evening. One storm system will be leaving the area as a new atmospheric river heads into the region on Thursday.
Flood watch warning is now in place for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. to Friday at 4:00 a.m. This will be combine with a winter storm warning starting at the same time and going until Saturday at 1:00 a.m. Those warnings will be replaced with a dry period over the weekend with sunny clear skies and temperatures into the 40s and 50s.

Tahoe Mountain Lab to add working spaces on the slopes at Heavenly

That wish will be a reality this winter as Tahoe Mountain Lab and Vail Resorts have developed a first of its kind coworking space at Heavenly Mountain's Lakeview Lodge.
Starting in December, the on-mountain solution will open for people that need to hammer out a few hours of work but would still like to enjoy a day on the slopes.
Three local men arrested in connection with theft of 1,100 Heavenly ski vouchers
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/19/2016 - 5:28pmAn investigation into the March 10 theft of $116,520 worth of Heavenly Valley ski pass vouchers has led to the arrest of three men on suspicion of conspiracy, felony embezzlement, theft and possession of stolen property.
On July 15 and 16, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office took into custody Tim Jacobsen, 21, of Minden, Nev., Mark Graham, 20 of Gardnerville, Nev., and Angelo Bozin, 25 of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Bail has been set on each man at $10,000.00.
Leave No Trace events in South Lake Tahoe to raise awareness

As visitors flock to the outdoor recreation wonderland that is Lake Tahoe the trails, beaches and forests are experiencing an increase in use and the associated impacts of trash, trail erosion and shoreline degradation.

Heavenly Resort unveils new rock climbing wall

The permanent climbing wall was unveiled to the public today and adds to the resort’s expanding offerings of summer activities, like ropes courses, zip lines and tubing.
BBC at Lake Tahoe to film pine cone collection days
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/31/2015 - 8:51pmFall is here early and the pine seeds are ripening. The Sugar Pine Foundation has set some upcoming cone collection days so they can gather those seeds for future plantings.
This year, there are not many new sugar pines cones, but the western white pine cone crop is abundant. They will be collecting cones from the newly identified resistant western white pine at Heavenly near Maggie's Run on Tuesday, September 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the first known resistant western white pine in our seed zone 772, so they are very excited!
Forty Carson Valley kids spend two weeks in G.R.E.A.T. program
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/07/2015 - 6:36pmForty 7th grade students just finished the two week long 2015 Summer G.R.E.A.T. Program sponsored by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).
Twenty students from Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School and 20 from Carson Valley Middle School learned leadership, goal setting, and decision making skills in the program. They had the opportunity to participate in the Heavenly Resort Epic mountain ropes course, kayaked Lake Tahoe and completed community service by cleaning up Zephyr Cove Beach.
Opening Day on the Lake Tahoe Slopes
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/23/2013 - 3:06pmAfter winds delayed Friday’s initial opening day, Heavenly Mountain Resort opened for the 2013-2014 ski and ride season on Saturday, November 23. The resort opened the Gondola and Tamarack Express, accessing 14 acres and 1.5 miles of skiable terrain. The resort plans to open additional terrain this next week, conditions permitting.
Northstar California Resort also opened today, and Kirkwood Mountain Resort is slated to open on Monday, November 25, giving access to three Tahoe resorts leading into the Thanksgiving holiday. Sierra at Tahoe may join them, depending on conditions.
Lake Tahoe Ski Resorts Holding a Job Fair

Heavenly will hire 800 seasonal employees. Northstar will hire 1,100, and Kirkwood will hire 400. Three job fairs are scheduled throughout October, giving candidates an opportunity to meet with managers and find the best-suited jobs.
