Normal winter predicted for Lake Tahoe and Sierra Nevada

Farmer's Almanac released it's 2014 edition recently and it calls for a cool winter with "near normal precipitation." With the recent fires in Yosemite and the rest of California, many feel that anything above the precipitation of the last 2 years would be very welcome.

Indian legend says that if the snow melts in the cross of Mt. Tallac before the next snow fall then Lake Tahoe will see a heavy winter. There are other signs seen around town lately that may be predictive of a heavy winter (though some say they are just myth): Raccoons and squirrels having bushier tails, more pine cones in the trees, more green pine cones on the ground and heavier bee hives.

The East Coast is predicted to have a very snowy and cold winter, especially the first 2 weeks of February. The Super Bowl will be held outdoors at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
