The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority has opened the 2017 American Century Championship grant period, encouraging South Lake Tahoe non-profits to apply for a portion of $51,000 to be given to the community.
So far this year, the LTVA in partnership with NBC Sports and American Century Investments, have directed $62,000 to volunteer organizations that worked at the event and other initiatives during tournament week to area high schools, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe Booster Club, Tahoe Fund and the Gene Upshaw Scholarship Fund. In total, tournament partners will provide $113,000 to local nonprofits, agencies and schools as a result from the July tournament.
Since 2009, donations exceeding $850,000 have been distributed to more than 80 local non-profits to assist 10,500+ individuals. In 2016, 20 local groups received funding during the same grant process.
For funding consideration groups must meet 501(c)3 certified nonprofit guidelines, provide an outline of their mission, describe how the donation will be used and indicate impact in the community, and be located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., or in the Tahoe Township portion of Douglas County. The application is available at http://ltva.org under Community News and must be received by noon Friday, Oct. 13. Recipients will be presented with checks at the LTVA Board of Directors meeting, Thursday, Nov. 9 at 3:00 p.m.
Since its inception in 1990, the tournament has donated more than $4.5 million to local and national non-profits. The nation’s longest running celebrity golf tournament captured the media spotlight with crowd favorites Justin Timberlake, Stephen Curry, Tony Romo in the field of famed sports stars, legends and celebrity competitors. Returning stars included Charles Barkley, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Larry the Cable Guy, and Hall of Famers and All-Stars representing major sports.
The 29th annual American Century Championship is July 10-15, 2018.
