Victim in fatal Placerville shooting identified, investigation continues

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office detectives have released the name of the man who was fatally shot Friday in Placerville as Richard Lee Hart, 37.
Michael Steven Hayes of Placerville is the alleged shooter in the event that happened on Lo Hi Way. Hayes has not been arrested and no charges have been filed at this time per the investigating detectives, said Lt. Tim Decker.
El Dorado County authorities are trying to determine whether the shooting was in self defense. Hart was reportedly armed with a handgun at the time he was fatally shot by Hayes.

Just before midnight on Friday the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a gunshot in the 3100 block of Lo Hi Way. Shortly thereafter the El Dorado County dispatchers received a report that a man, Hart, armed with a handgun had entered a residence and had been shot with a shotgun and then attempted to leave the residence and was laying on the ground just outside the door of the residence.
