Police investigating fatal crash in South Lake Tahoe

10:00PM UPDATE: SLTPD has said the victim in Friday's fatal crash is a 21-year-old man from Santa Rosa, Calif. The name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash in the 700 block of Emerald Bay Road on Friday afternoon at 3:51 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle resting upside down on the road in front of Burger Lounge.

Victim in fatal head-on collision identified as South Lake Tahoe resident

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - The victim of Tuesday's deadly crash on US Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove has been identified as a South Lake Tahoe resident.

At 6:25 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to a head-on collision at Douglas County miler marker 3.

The NHP preliminary investigation shows a black 2011 Dodge Ram pickup was traveling eastbound on the highway approaching a right curve in the roadway. At that same time, a gray 2003 Honda Element was approaching the same curve as the driver headed westbound.

Lanes currently closed due to fatal collision on US 50 near Zephyr Cove

7:40 p.m. Update: Two vehicles were involved at US-50 and Douglas Mile Marker 3, east of Stateline on Tuesday evening. There is one confirmed deceased according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. They said impairment is suspected.

The highway is still shut down in both directions for the investigation. Avoid the area and expect the closure to last several hours.

High blue-green algae toxins detected in Alpine County lakes

The levels of toxins associated with blooms of blue-green algae have reached above the "danger" level at Red Lake in Alpine Count, and at the "warning" level at Indian Creek Reservoir.

The Alpine County Health Department has been working with The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Red Lake), South Tahoe Public Utility District (Indian Creek Reservoir), and the Alpine Watershed Group (AWG) in determining these levels.

Fatal crash south of Lake Tahoe near Blue Lakes claims life of 74-year-old Dayton man

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in South Lake Tahoe is reporting a fatal collision Wednesday on Blue Lakes Road off of SR88 south of Lake Tahoe.

In the early morning hours of August 5, 74-year-old Michael Glenn Pace of Dayton, Nevada was traveling southbound on Blue Lakes Road, north of Sunset Lake Road, when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. CHP says Pace went onto the gravel shoulder and attempted to steer back onto the roadway but his vehicle overturned, tumbled 150 feet down a steep embankment and struck a tree.

71-year-old Jackson man identified as victim in Kingsbury Grade motorcycle crash

Fatal shooting in Douglas County under investigation

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Department (DCSO) Is investigating a shooting that left one dead in Gardnerville.

At 9:31 p.m. on March 21, 2020, DCSO deputies responded to a report of gunshots in the area of the 1400 block of Bumblee Drive. When they arrived they found a deceased male, a victim of gunshot wounds.

Fatal collision on US50 west of Lake Tahoe

Two people were seriously injured and another died due to a collision on US50 near Fresh Pond on Thursday, February 6, 2020.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., 89-year-old Jean Macke of Fair Oaks, California was driving her 2014 Ford Escape eastbound on US-50, just west of Fresh Pond, at a speed of approximately 65 MPH. At the same time, Silun Xie, 56, was driving a 2013 Toyota Sienna with his passenger Xumin Yang, 55, westbound on US-50. They are from both from Riverbank, Calif.

New Year's Eve crash in Genoa turns into fatal investigation

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The 82-year-old man involved in a single-car collision in Genoa on December 31 has died from the injuries he sustained.

On New Year's Eve at approximately 6:49 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a call of a serious injury crash at the intersection of Mill Street and SR-205 in Genoa. The driver was transported to a Reno hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Motorcyclist dies in crash on US50 east of Lake Tahoe

CARSON CITY, Nev. - There was a fatal crash involving a single motorcycle on US50/ Spooner Summit Saturday night, one mile above the junction with US395 near the Carson City-Douglas County line.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), the passenger on the motorcycle died in the crash which occurred just before 8:00 p.m. September 7.

Care Flight landed on the highway to transport the driver who had critical injuries in the crash.

As of 10:30 p.m. Saturday, one eastbound lane was still closed on US50 for an investigation.

Fatal crash involving gas tanker in South Lake Tahoe

Update 10:00 p.m. - One person has died after the tanker truck they were driving on Highway 50 just west of South Lake Tahoe collided with the Upper Truckee River bridge near Elks Club Road.

The preliminary investigation shows that at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 the driver of a Toyota Prius was making a right turn from Elks Club Road onto Highway 50 when he pulled out in front of the eastbound truck. According to CHP South Lake Tahoe Commander Terry Lowther, the driver of the Pruis violated the truck driver's right-of-way.

Thousands of Burners head through Reno-Tahoe International Airport on way to Black Rock Desert

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) was a very busy place Monday as most of the 20,000 people expected to fly in for Burning Man 2019 passed through on their way to the Black Rock Desert.

Attendees to the annual event (known as Burners) were greeted at the airport RNO's therapy dogs, Paws for Passengers, who wore costumes for the day to bring smiles to arriving Burners.

Dayton resident identified as victim in Lake Tahoe motorcycle crash

STATELINE, Nev. - A Dayton, Nevada man has been identified as the victim in Sunday's fatal motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade.

Just before 8:00 p.m. on July 28 Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on SR-207/Kingsbury Grade one mile up from Lake Tahoe at Douglas County Mile Marker 1.

Preliminary investigation shows that a black 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on SR-207. For an unknown reason, the motorcycle overturned and both the driver and passenger were ejected.

Fatal DUI suspect makes Douglas County court appearance

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - The man accused of causing the death of Carson City resident Hugo Parra-Solis was in Tahoe Township Court on Tuesday.

Dressed in his jail-issued jumpsuit and shoes, the chained Jerrad Dominguez appeared in front of visiting Judge Nancy Oesterle. He does not have an attorney and told the judge he was trying to secure a Nevada attorney. Due to a lack of counsel, Dominguez did not enter any pleas.

Court date set for man facing charges in fatal Lake Tahoe crash

STATELINE, Nevada - The 40-year-old man who was arrested Thursday after a deadly crash near Round Hill, Nevada will see his first day in court on Tuesday.

Jerrad Dominguez, whose driver's license says he is from Gold River, Calif., was driving a Ford F-150 when he crossed the double line into the path of a westbound Chevrolet Silverado driven by a Carson City man on his way to work in South Lake Tahoe.

Fatal collision on Highway 50 near Round Hill; One arrested for suspected impairment

UPDATE 9:50AM - There is one confirmed fatality and one arrest for impairment in the early morning two-vehicle collision on Highway 50 near Round Hill Thursday.

While the investigation is still preliminary, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Hannah DeGoey said it appears the driver of a vehicle towing a trailer was the person killed and the driver of the other vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of impairment.

The name, age and hometown of the deceased is being held pending notification of next of kin. The identity of the person arrested has not been released at this time.

Violations of distracted driving laws continue to increase despite education

Even with the increase in anti-distracted driving campaigns, abusers of this law are on the rise according to data received during the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Distracted Driving Awareness Month in April.

During April, 19,850 citations were issued to drivers who violated California’s hands-free cell phone laws. This is a 3.6 percent increase from April 2018.

Public Health reminder: Keep pets current on rabies vaccines

El Dorado County Animal Services is reminding residents to keep pets current on rabies vaccines and notify Animal Services of any animal bite. Last week, Animal Services identified a skunk on the 5600 block of Pony Express Trail in Pollock Pines that tested positive for rabies. This is the second rabid skunk to be found in El Dorado County in the past six months.

Former South Lake Tahoe resident killed in I-580 crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) has released information about Friday's fatal crash on Interstate 580 that killed a former South Tahoe High student and Carson City resident.

On March 8 at approximately 2:25 a.m., NHP Troopers were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle crash south of the Galena Creek Bridge, just north of the US-395 Alternate/Bowers Mansion exit.

Fremont man dies after being struck by car at Bridal Veil Falls

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - A 40-year-old man from Fremont, California died Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car near Bridal Veil Falls on Highway 50 west of Lake Tahoe.

Ramesh Pulavarthi was standing on the driver's side of his vehicle in the #2 eastbound lane of U50 just east of the falls at 1:50 p.m. A 2010 Jeep driven by 59-year-old Sacramento man was heading east approaching the falls when he came upon Pulavarthi's vehicle that was parked in the travel lane. He swerved to the left but struck Mr. Pulavarthi who was thrown several feet and sustained fatal injuries.

Baby and two adults die in collision on Highway 50 east of Placerville

One baby and two adults died in a two-car collision on Highway 50 Tuesday evening east of Placerville.

On January 15, 2019 at approximately 6:27 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the crash near the Camino Heights Drive intersection. They say a 51-year-old man from Fremont, Calif. was driving a 2005 Volvo 560 westbound at a speed around 60 mph. At the same time, a 39-year-old Pollock Pines, Calif. man was heading eastbound in a 2017 Subaru Impreza at approximately 65 mph.

South Lake Tahoe resident Michael Spate has been identified as the man who died after being struck by a vehicle just before 7:30 p.m. on September 28, 2018.

The preliminary investigation suggests Spate, who was 65-years-old, was crossing Lake Tahoe Boulevard near the driveway into Denny's and US Bank. He was not walking in a crosswalk.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 65-year-old man died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle near Denny's on Lake Tahoe Boulevard. Just before 7:30 p.m. on September 28, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received several calls about a pedestrian versus vehicle collision near the intersection of Lake Tahoe and Al Tahoe Boulevards.

Upon arrival they found an unresponsive man lying in the roadway in front of Denny's. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the local man deceased at the scene.

Local man dies in South Lake Tahoe motorcycle vs. truck crash

4:13 p.m. UPDATE: The driver of the truck involved in Thursday's fatal crash is a 63-year-old male from South Lake Tahoe. As investigators worked at the scene, Lake Tahoe Boulevard was closed to all traffic for about 2.5 hours from Takela Drive to Fairway Avenue.

"South Lake Tahoe Police Department appreciates the public’s patience during the closure/detour," said Lt. David Stevenson. "The Police Department would also like to thank CHP and Cal Trans for assisting with traffic control. Second victim in fatal Truckee plane crash identified

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the person who died following Tuesday's plane crash in Truckee as Peter C. Jackson, 55, of West Hollywood, Calif.

Shortly before 7:40 a.m. on July 17, 2018, the single-engine piston Navion-B crashed near the Northstar golf course on the west side of Highway 267, not far from the Truckee-Tahoe Airport.

Two-person police team protecting South Lake Tahoe waters

A day on the lake is a dream come true for many, but for two South Lake Tahoe Police Department officers it's another day at the office. As they navigate Lake Tahoe they are looking for speeders, unsafe practices, life vests, drunk boaters and boat registrations, as well as responding to life threatening crashes and drownings.

Cyclist killed by hit-and-run driver along US50 in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 33-year-old South Lake Tahoe man died after being struck by a vehicle on US 50 between Grocery Outlet and the Upper Truckee Bridge as he crossed the highway.

Crews from Security Paving, the Caltrans contractor working in the area, arrived at the job site at 5:38 a.m. Wednesday and found the body off the side of the road and called the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).

SLTPD arrived first but turned the incident over to California Highway Patrol (CHP) as it was construction zone incident. Work had not yet begun for the day.
