SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A leaking regulator on the gas meter on the South Lake Middle School boiler led to an evacuation of the school Thursday morning.
At 9:34 a.m., South Tahoe Fire Rescue responded along with Southwest Gas to the school on Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The students and staff evacuated in the process.
South Tahoe Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Jay Manning said these regulators go out on a regular basis and get replaced. He said there was a faint smell of gas. Southwest Gas was called and they advised the school to evacuate as a precaution.
SLTFR let the scene at 10:07 and the gas company is replacing the regulator.
