The end for long time businesses: Sam's Place closes, Cork & More to follow

Sam's Place Bar & Grill and the Cork & More, two iconic South Lake Tahoe businesses, surprised many with their news this week that they are ending their multi-decade runs on the South Shore.
For many, Sam's Place was where they went after work for pizza and a beer after work. Others enjoyed the pool, outdoor patio, sports on their televisions, slot machines or the camaraderie that comes with a neighborhood bar.
After 45 years in business, Sam's Place Bar and Grill has closed their doors. The owner of the building decided to not renew their lease according to Don and Sam Blough, Sam's owners.
According to an ad on Craigslist, Don, is selling the name and equipment for $595,000.
Another longtime institution, the Cork & More, is also closing. After almost 40 years in business, owners Jim and Kim Warlow have decided to retire. Everything in the store (besides deli and pastries) is currently 25% off, cash or check only.
The "go-to" place for specialty wines and gifts will close on November 1, 2015. They are located at 1032 Al Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.
