Lake Valley Fire offers free curbside chipping through October

Homeowners in the Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) area are encouraged to take advantage of their free curbside chipping service through the month of October.
The chipping crew is still actively responding to requests and will be available through the month as long as conditions permit.
This free service assists homeowners by converting slash and cut limbs into wood chips for use on their property. This action reduces flammable vegetation and helps homeowners create defensible space to protect their property from the threat of wildfire. Services of the Lake Valley Curbside Chipping program are offered to district residents of El Dorado County, Fallen Leaf, and Alpine County.
LVFPD also encourages any homeowners who have received a Fire Defensible Space Inspection this summer to complete fuel reduction recommendations while they are still pertinent and before snow falls this winter. By taking advantage of free curbside chipping, fire defensible space work is more convenient and cost-effective for homeowners.
It is important to have a properly stacked and located pile to avoid a re-stack notice and to help maximize crew efficiency. Instructions are provided on Lake Valley FPD’s website (www.lakevalleyfire.org).
When your pile is ready to be chipped, contact Lake Valley Fire Protection District at 530-577-CHIP (2447) to be added to the chipping schedule. The final day of the 2016 field season is October 28. Lake Valley FPD’s free curbside chipping program is funded by Cal Fire SRA Fee Grant in conjunction with the Tahoe Resource Conservation District."
